Bengaluru: Motorists waiting to use Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) between Hoskote and Karnataka–Tamil Nadu border may get access to the 21-km stretch by Dec, with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) planning a phased opening even as construction of a crucial railway overbridge (ROB) is expected to continue until March 2027.The stretch will be opened in phases, with diversions planned at the ROB being built across Bengaluru–Chennai railway line at Lingadeeramallasandra. NHAI plans to launch the 59-metre girder on the carriageway carrying traffic from Hoskote to Hosur by Dec. The girder for the opposite carriageway, towards Hoskote, is expected to be launched by March. The girder launch has been delayed by more than one and a half years, holding up completion of the highway despite substantial progress on the rest of the stretch. NHAI is now exploring ways to allow vehicles to use available portions of the road without waiting for the entire ROB to be completed.A senior NHAI official said Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), which inspected the site, had made certain observations that had since been addressed. “RDSO will conduct another inspection. Once necessary clearances are obtained, the 59-metre girder will be launched across the railway line,” the official said.Under the proposed arrangement, traffic will be diverted around the ROB construction site, while vehicles will be allowed to use the available carriageways beyond it. This will enable motorists to access much of the 21-km stretch before the ROB is fully ready. The Hoskote–Tamil Nadu border section is a key link in STRR, which is designed to improve connectivity between satellite towns around Bengaluru. At the state border, the road connects with a 36-km ring road extending towards Belagondapalli in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district, providing onward connectivity to Hosur.Once operational, the stretch will offer a more direct route to motorists and freight operators travelling between Hoskote and Hosur, while improving connectivity towards Devanahalli, Doddaballapura and Tumakuru Road.
