Patna: A 25-year-old man drowned during the immersion of Goddess Durga’s idol at Ramghat artificial pond at Maner in Patna district late Wednesday night after his foot got trapped in the wooden structure beneath the idol, police said. The deceased, Shashi Kumar, son of Suresh Paswan, was a resident of Newati Mohalla. According to local residents, Shashi was participating in the immersion procession when he entered deep water along with the idol. His foot got stuck in the wooden structure, causing him to lose his balance and drown.Locals pulled him out of the water and rushed him to Maner Primary Health Centre (PHC), where doctors declared him dead. Hoping to save him, his family then took him to a private doctor before rushing him to ESIC Hospital in Bihta. However, doctors there also declared him dead. The family alleged that ESIC Hospital management did not provide an ambulance to transport the body, forcing them to return to Maner with it on a motorcycle. The family also accused doctors at the Maner PHC of negligence, claiming that Shashi was breathing when he was pulled out of the water but was declared dead without receiving proper treatment.Maner police station SHO Rajneesh Kumar said that, based on the report received from PHC doctors that Shashi died by drowning, police are conducting further legal proceedings in the case.
