Ahmedabad: A special Pocso court in Ahmedabad on Wednesday sentenced a 35-year-old man to 20 years in prison for raping his minor sister-in-law.According to case details, the accused, a resident of Meghaninagar, eloped with his 15-year-old sister-in-law in June 2025. The girl’s father lodged an FIR with the Shaherkotda police station. As the girl was a minor, charges of rape and abduction were invoked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.Additional public prosecutor D M Thakor examined 14 witnesses and presented 24 pieces of documentary evidence to establish the offence.Special Pocso judge H N Desai sentenced the accused to 20 years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 on him. The court ordered Rs 4 lakh in compensation for the victim. with “Victims are often left in a vulnerable and pitiable condition. Emphasis has therefore been laid on extending support to them by invoking rehabilitation provisions and putting mechanisms in place to help them rebuild their lives and move forward,” court order stated.
