Thane: The Thane police probing the Azad Nagar teen murder case will question the accused boys’ local and college friends to establish their movements after the crime and corroborate their statements with technical evidence, officials said on Sunday.A Kasarwadavli police team is also likely to visit the Bhiwandi remand home, where the two juveniles are lodged, for further questioning. The two 17-year-old college students allegedly murdered their friend, also 17, on Sept 24, to steal his gold chain. Preliminary investigations suggest one wanted the proceeds to fund a lavish birthday party, while the other planned to buy a motorcycle. Both reportedly hail from middle-income families.“The victim and one accused studied at the same college along Ghodbunder highway and may have common friends, while the other attended a different college. The boys appear to be misleading us by giving different versions during initial questioning. We will now approach their local and college contacts to learn more about their lifestyle and movements post the murder date,” a senior official said.Investigators have recovered the murder weapon, the victim’s mobile phone, and smartwatch, which were allegedly thrown into a bus to mislead them. However, the gold chain remains untraced, and investigators suspect it may have been sold.“We are using technical analysis to track the accused boys’ locations and identify places they visited after the murder to get to know if they managed to sell the chain and spend it or not. Initial investigations revealed the accused who wanted money for the party recently celebrated his birthday at home. However, we want to corroborate their claims with technical evidence,” the police said.
