Jodhpur: A 39-hour-long rescue operation to save nine-year-old Bhomaram, who fell into a 1,050-foot-deep borewell at Punia Ki Dhani in Phalodi district, ended in tragedy early Saturday. Bhomaram was declared dead at a hospital shortly after he was pulled out. The rescue team managed to reach Bhomaram around 3.30 am Saturday. The incident had triggered an extensive rescue operation involving the administration, police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Despite continuous efforts, the teams faced serious challenges due to a large stone obstruction inside the borewell, hampering access to the child.Bhomaram was trapped at a depth of around 640 feet, while a stone was stuck approximately 30 feet above him. The obstruction made it difficult to lower pipes and other rescue equipment to the required depth. Oxygen supply arrangements were also affected .When conventional rescue efforts failed, the administration sought the assistance of Madaram Suthar, known for his expertise in developing indigenous rescue techniques. They devised a special tool using iron rods to remove the obstruction. After nearly 34 hours of effort, the stone was finally removed, paving the way for the final phase of the rescue operation. The team subsequently managed to pull Bhomaram out of the borewell in the next five hours.
