Jaipur: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested at Rajasthan University’s main gate Friday, burning an effigy labelled ‘anti-democratic forces’ over what it alleged were attempts to spread anarchy and undermine the country’s constitutional order. Protesters also raised slogans of “Arajakta Roko, Loktantra Apnao” (Stop Anarchy, Embrace Democracy).ABVP representative Shubhendra Nirwan said similar protests were held at four to five universities, including Shekhawati University in Sikar and Maharaja Surajmal Brij University in Bharatpur. He said the protests opposed attempts to create instability and stressed that freedom of expression must be exercised within constitutional limits. The organisation also objected to comparisons between India and what it described as anarchic situations in Bangladesh and Nepal.Nirwan said universities should remain centres of education, dialogue and nation-building, guided by discipline and constitutional values.
