Srinagar, Oct 13: MLA Zadibal & Chief Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq today laid the foundation stone for the improvement and upgradation of Alipora Chowk at Bamk Mill Stop, Srinagar at an estimated cost of ₹82.97 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Tanvir Sadiq said that his commitment is to transform Zadibal into one of the model constituencies, with a focus on improving road connectivity, strengthening drainage infrastructure, undertaking macadamisation and enhancing the overall urban landscape.
He emphasised that while roads, drainage and macadamisation remain essential priorities, improving junctions, streamlining traffic movement and making public spaces more aesthetically appealing are equally important aspects of planned urban development.
“Alipora Chowk is among the busiest and most congested junctions in Srinagar. The road is a major arterial link connecting the Hazratbal Shrine with Soura Hospital and witnesses heavy traffic movement. The stretch has also witnessed frequent accidents, making the need for its improvement all the more urgent. This project will help improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and give the junction a more organised and aesthetically pleasing appearance,” he said.
He added that the project would be a landmark intervention for the area, not only improving traffic management but also making the junction more recognisable and easier for commuters and visitors to navigate.
Tanvir Sadiq further stated that the junction would play an important role in the broader road connectivity plan he has proposed for the area. The proposal envisages connecting Mirza Kamil Sahib Chowk to Madeen Sahib and extending the road connectivity onwards to Akmal Road. He said that the required funding for this proposed road project has been sought under the Central Road Fund (CRF), and its implementation would further strengthen connectivity across the area.
He reiterated that development in Zadibal would be pursued through a comprehensive approach that combines essential infrastructure, improved mobility, road safety and the beautification of public spaces, ensuring that development works bring visible and lasting benefits to residents.
XEN R&B Srinagar Core, AEE, prominent citizens and other concerned persons were present on the occasion.
