Bengaluru: Karnataka high court has granted six-day interim bail to self-styled political activist Basavaraj Kannale, a prime accused in the high-profile Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) veterinary officer recruitment scam.Justice Vishwajith Shetty ruled Monday that Kannale be released on interim bail from Oct 15 to Oct 20, explicitly to allow him to attend the naming ceremony of his newborn daughter. However, the court has mandated strict security measures, directing that police must escort Kannale at all times during his temporary release. Kannale will be travelling to Bidar.Currently, Kannale is held in judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison, where another prime suspect, suspended IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, is also lodged.Investigators position Gangwar and Kannale as central figures who allegedly leveraged their influence to compromise the examination and hiring process. While Kannale’s defence counsel has maintained his innocence—previously arguing that his name did not figure in the original FIR—the prosecution has continuously pointed to a deep-seated involvement in managing the illicit transactions. The case is being probed by CID and Enforcement Directorate (ED). While CID arrested Gyanendra and Kannale, ED, in addition to Gyanendra and Kannale, arrested suspended KPSC chairperson Shivashankarappa Sahukar and member BV Geetha.
