Kolkata: Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday skipped a summons by Shakespeare Sarani police station in connection with the Aug 27 Camac Street billboard dispute, citing short notice and prior parliamentary commitments.Banerjee, who was directed to appear before investigators on Monday, sent an email requesting a fresh summons with at least 48 hours’ prior notice. He was later asked to appear next Wednesday. In his reply, Banerjee claimed that “the unilateral stipulation of such a short period for appearance, without affording a reasonable opportunity to accommodate prior engagements, is arbitrary and unreasonable”.The notice relates to an FIR lodged over alleged obstruction and assault of civic personnel and police during a drive to remove a TMC-branded billboard outside the TMC office. On Monday, Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya spoke about “corruption” over “Sebaashray” and the investigation against Banerjee without taking his name. “There is a successor. We don’t know how no step is being taken against him. I cannot instruct the CM to do something,” he said.
