Patna: Sitamarhi police on Monday arrested 77-year-old retired govt employee Ramjiwan Rai in Patna for allegedly posting objectionable comments about Goddess Durga on social media.Rai, a retired Food Corporation of India (FCI) employee, is a resident of Ward No. 2 in Runnisaidpur, Sitamarhi district. Following his arrest, he was brought to Sitamarhi for questioning.Police said Rai allegedly posted the comments on his social media page on the afternoon of Oct 11. After the posts surfaced and demands for action were raised, police registered an FIR late Sunday evening.During the search for Rai, police received information that he was at his residence in Patna. A police team subsequently raided the premises and arrested him.Sitamarhi SP Amit Ranjan said, “Those who try to disturb social harmony by making objectionable comments on social media will not be spared. Police will take strict action against such people.”He appealed to people to use social media responsibly and refrain from posting objectionable comments about any religion or community. Police said further legal action was being taken in the case.
