Times News NetworkKanpur: A vegetable trader died after a speeding bus hit him near Ganga Barrage petrol pump in the city late Saturday evening, prompting his family and local residents to block Nawabganj police station over alleged police negligence.The protesters alleged that police failed to take injured Sumit Nishad (35) to hospital in time or examine CCTV footage to trace the bus. Hundreds of people blocked the Company Bagh-Chidiyaghar route outside the police station and raised slogans, disrupting traffic. The blockade continued till late night hours.Police personnel from six stations, including Swaroop Nagar, Gwaltoli, Colonelganj and Raipurwa, reached the site and pacified the protesters to disperse.Nishad, a resident of Amrood Mandi in Nawabganj’s Chidiyaghar area, was returning home from the mandi when the bus hit him. His brothers Sunil, Sushil and Amarjeet alleged that police personnel passing through the area watched him lying injured on the road but did not take him to hospital. The family was informed by local people and took Nishad to hospital, where he was declared dead.He is survived by his wife Kajal and children Kirti and Rudransh. He was the third of Kanhaiya Lal’s four sons.Nawabganj police station in-charge said the police are taking action in this regard.
