Dimapur: The district administration has imposed prohibitory orders in Pungro sub-division, excluding Khongsa block but including Kiusam circle, following violence between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities. One person was reportedly killed and several houses were set on fire during clashes between the two communities on Saturday. The order, issued by district magistrate Temsuwati Longkumer under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, came into force immediately. It covers areas where the two communities coexist, including Zaonger, Pokphur and Longtsunger. The restrictions prohibit gatherings of five or more people likely to disturb public order, carrying weapons and organising potentially confrontational meetings without permission. The circulation of material that could incite violence or hostility between communities has also been banned. In a public advisory on Sunday, the district administration urged residents to exercise restraint and avoid any action that could trigger further confrontation.Longkumer appealed to community organisations, village authorities and residents to refrain from provocative statements, intimidation and the circulation of unverified information. He urged all communities to uphold mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, stressing that cooperation was essential to prevent further violence. The DC also asked residents to comply with the restrictions and cooperate with the police and civil administration.Village councils, gaon burhas, tribal organisations and community leaders were urged to discourage retaliatory action and help resolve differences through dialogue. The administration said it was monitoring the situation in coordination with the police and other authorities. It warned that violations of the order, or any act prejudicial to public peace and security, would invite legal action.
