Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police has arrested another accused in the alleged NEET-UG re-examination impersonation racket, in which impostors allegedly attempted to take the test in place of genuine candidates by exploiting biometric verification.Pramod Kumar, a resident of Jahana village under Halsi police station in Lakhisarai district, was arrested on Oct 9. He allegedly helped facilitate the entry of impersonators into examination centres and was sent to judicial custody, EOU officials said on Saturday.The case relates to the NEET-UG re-examination held on June 21, 2026, at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Khagaur, Lakhisarai, where suspected impersonators allegedly attempted to appear in place of original candidates. An FIR was registered at Kiul police station.According to an EOU statement, “Pramod had obtained the tender for biometric-related work at the examination through two individuals, identified as Vikas Kumar and Rahul. He is suspected of subsequently coordinating with people involved in biometric verification to facilitate the entry of impersonators into the examination centre.”EOU DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon said, “The names of Mohammad Shahzad, Subodh and Rohit Kumar alias Murari also emerged during the investigation and questioning. Investigators are examining their alleged connections and respective roles in the suspected racket.”The agency said Pramod and other accused were also allegedly linked to Kawaiya police station cases. Investigators are examining possible links between these cases and the alleged network arranging proxy candidates.Bihar Police had earlier arrested 30 people, including medical students, suspected impersonators and biometric personnel. The EOU has filed chargesheets against 14 of those arrested. Rohit Kumar alias Murari was brought on remand in the case from Nawada Town police station.Investigators are examining how genuine candidates were allegedly linked to proxy examinees, who orchestrated the suspected manipulation of biometric checks and whether financial transactions facilitated the operation.
