Amravati: A farm caretaker couple from Madhya Pradesh was killed in a hit-and-run accident near Maywadi Phata on the Morshi road on Friday night.The deceased have been identified as Somlal Uike (55) and his wife Chaturbati Uike (48), residents of Gazadhaba village in Multai tehsil of Betul district, Madhya Pradesh. The couple was currently working as caretakers at an agricultural field in Dapori village under Morshi taluka.As per the police, the incident took place around 8:30pm on Friday. The couple had come to Morshi for some work on their motorcycle and was returning to Dapori when an unidentified speeding vehicle rammed into their bike from behind near Maywadi Phata.Chaturbati Uike died on the spot after being run over. Her husband Somlal sustained critical injuries and died on the way to the Sub-District Hospital in Morshi.A team from Morshi police station rushed to the spot under the guidance of police inspector Rahul Athawale. PSI Deepak Uike and constable Balu Chavan conducted the spot panchnama. The bodies were shifted to the mortuary at the Sub-District Hospital, Morshi.A post-mortem was conducted on Saturday by medical officials and the bodies were handed over to the relatives of the deceased.Morshi police have registered a case against the unidentified driver for rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence. Police are scanning CCTV footage from establishments along the Morshi route to trace the offending vehicle, PI Athawale said.
