Chennai: Tambaram City Police Commissioner invoked the Goondas Act against Manik Uddin Laskar, 22, from Assam, and his wife, Bhagawati Majhi. Police had arrested the couple in connection with the murder and dismemberment of a 38-year-old woman in Guduvanchery.The commissioner issued the detention orders on Friday. Guduvanchery police handed copies to officials at Puzhal Central Prison.The case came to light on Aug 5, when police found an unclaimed suitcase aboard the Tamil Nadu Express after it travelled from Chennai Central to Agra. The suitcase contained a headless human skeleton and other body parts.During the investigation, police examined surveillance camera footage from several locations and searched a house on Mosque Street in Guduvanchery. They found human flesh in a large vessel used for preparing biryani.Police identified the victim as Hayathun Nisha, 38, from Odisha. Investigators later arrested Laskar and Majhi on charges of murder and dismemberment. A court remanded them to Puzhal Central Prison.
