Ahmedabad: A section of the air-conditioned dome being erected for singer Kirtidan Gadhvi’s ‘Parampara’ Navratri event at Gopal Farm on SP Ring Road collapsed on Friday, injuring a worker. The event is scheduled to begin on Oct 11.The dome had been under construction for about two months, and lighting and other installations had been completed. Workers were present at the site when one side of the temporary structure gave way. One worker sustained minor injuries and was taken for treatment. No one was reported trapped under the collapsed structure.The fire brigade rushed a team to the venue. Officials inspected the site and checked the status of the permissions required for the temporary structure.A fire department official said an online application had been submitted for the temporary structure and the site had been inspected earlier. However, a fire safety certificate was yet to be issued as the work was incomplete. The official said the department issues the certificate only after a structure is ready and officials have verified the number of entry and exit gates.The official said a preliminary inspection indicated that pillars supporting the dome might not have been embedded sufficiently deep into the ground. The exact circumstances of the collapse were being examined.The venue, spread over around 9 lakh sq feet, has a stated capacity to accommodate 12,000 people at a time.
