Patna: Two schoolgirls suffered burn injuries after coming into contact with a high-tension power line at a govt middle school in Muzaffarpur district on Friday. Both were admitted to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), where their condition was stable. The incident occurred around 11am during the lunch break at the school under Ahiyapur police station area.According to officials, some students had gone to the rooftop to eat when the incident occurred. The injured students were identified as Sandhya Kumari (13), a Class 7 student, and Madhu Kumari (14), a Class 8 student.District education officer Kumar Arvind Sinha said, “Two students have been admitted to SKMCH for treatment. Both are currently in stable condition.”Dr Satyapal Pal, who is treating the girls at SKMCH, said both had suffered burn injuries and were undergoing medical evaluation, including ECG tests. As a precautionary measure, one of them was shifted to the surgical intensive care unit for 24-hour observation.The incident triggered anger among family members, who alleged negligence on the part of the school authorities and demanded action against those found responsible.Sandhya’s mother alleged that the school staff had failed to ensure the safety of the students. She also demanded proper treatment for her daughter and action if negligence was established.A large number of local residents gathered at the school after the incident. Teams from the education department and district administration reached the spot to investigate the circumstances. Police also visited the campus and began examining how the girls came into contact with the high-tension line.The education department is separately probing allegations of negligence by the school staff. Officials said responsibility, if any, would be fixed after the inquiry.
