Hilarious!” Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das said on Friday, taking a swipe at the Delhi Police’s request to consider closing the entry and exit gates of 57 metro stations ahead of proposed protests on October 10.In another post, Das alleged that trains arriving in Delhi had been cancelled, questioning how long the authorities could continue imposing such restrictions.“The Emperor is so scared that he has cancelled trains coming to Delhi tomorrow! But for how many days can they do this?” Das wrote on X.Referring to the Covid-19 lockdown and the hardships faced by migrant workers, Das said people would find ways to convey their message to the government.“A nation awakened will find all ways to convey its message. Remember how you forced migrants all over the country to walk hundreds of kilometres during Covid? The same people will do it again, to teach those in government a lesson,” he added.Delhi Police Seeks Metro Restrictions At 57 StationsDelhi Police on Friday requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to consider closing the entry and exit gates of 57 metro stations from 9pm on October 9 in view of proposed protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in the New Delhi district on October 10.In a letter dated October 8, police cited the possibility of unruly crowd movement towards sensitive locations. The communication also proposed reducing the frequency of metro trains passing through the identified stations.The proposed restrictions would remain in force on October 10 until the situation returned to normal.The stations listed in the communication span several metro corridors and include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Mandi House, Supreme Court, New Delhi, Kashmere Gate, Jama Masjid, Chawri Bazar, Karol Bagh, Vishwavidyalaya, Hauz Khas, INA, Lajpat Nagar, Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Rithala, Rohini East, Rohini West, Shahdara, Welcome and Maujpur, among others.The list also includes Inderlok, Seelampur, Jafrabad, Yamuna Vihar, Azadpur, Majlis Park and Haiderpur Badli Mor.Police Deny Permission For October 10 ProtestDelhi Police has denied permission for a protest called by the CJP and some student organisations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar on October 10, a senior police officer told news agency PTI on Friday.Police cited the late submission of the application and alleged rule violations during a previous demonstration as reasons for denying permission.Joint commissioner of police, New Delhi range, Nupur Prasad, said police received the application on October 7, just three days before the proposed protest.According to the rules, applications for such demonstrations must be submitted at least 10 days in advance, she said.Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which empowers authorities to issue orders to prevent potential disturbances, has also been imposed in the New Delhi district, Prasad said.(With agency inputs)
