Jharsuguda: A 22-year-old man died after allegedly coming in contact with a live electric wire in the Bhurkhamunda area under Badmal police station limits in Jharsuguda district on Thursday evening.The deceased was identified as Sonu Sahani (22) of Buromal village.According to police, Sonu had gone to Bhurkhamunda with a group of friends. While relieving himself in the area, he accidentally came in contact with a live wire and suffered a severe electric shock. His friends immediately rushed to his aid and attempted to shift him to a hospital. However, they faced difficulties when a stationary goods train blocked a level crossing on their route.In a desperate attempt to get him medical attention, the group reportedly tried to carry the injured youth through the stationary train. Before they could complete the transfer, the train began moving, forcing them to remain onboard until it halted at Brundamal railway station.The injured man was then taken from the station to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.“Sonu came in contact with a live electric wire and sustained a severe shock. An investigation is underway to ascertain circumstances leading to the incident,” said Dilip Behera, inspector-in-charge of Badmal police station.Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation.The incident has raised concerns over electrical safety in the area as well as the challenges faced by residents in transporting critical patients during emergencies.
