Time’s ImpactJaisalmer: Following media reports on drought-like conditions and acute fodder shortage in Barmer and Jaisalmer due to deficient rainfall, the Barmer district administration Thursday sent proposals to the state govt to open fodder depots in affected areas. The move is aimed at providing subsidised fodder to livestock owners in villages where poor rainfall has deepened distress and threatened animal upkeep.Barmer district collector Chinmayi Gopal said the administration was closely monitoring the situation caused by inadequate rainfall and was taking steps to ensure adequate fodder and drinking water.Proposals have been sent for opening fodder depots in affected villages of Shiv, Ramsar and Gadra Road tehsils. The depots will start once the state govt approves them.Gopal said proposals for animal camps and fodder depots had been sought from all sub-divisional officers and tehsildars and proposals forwarded to govt were based on recommendations and field assessments. The collector also directed the Public Health Engineering Department to ensure drinking water supply through tankers in areas that received very little rainfall and are facing a water crisis. Administrative and PHED officials are visiting villages to assess the ground situation and ensure timely relief.
