Gurgaon: A 12-year friendship ended in tragedy after a scuffle between two friends near Sirohi lake in Faridabad, allegedly triggered by a mobile phone being damaged while they were making a reel, left a 19-year-old youth dead, police said. The Crime Branch AVTS team arrested his friend, Mufeed alias Mannu, 20, on Tuesday and sent him to a two-day police remand.Rajkumar and Mufeed, both residents of Faridabad’s Sirohi village, had been friends for around 12 years, according to the victim’s family. Police said Mufeed called Rajkumar on the evening of Oct 4, following which the two went to the area near Sirohi lake to make a reel.When Rajkumar did not return home for several hours, his family began searching for him. They later went to Mufeed’s house to ask if he knew where Rajkumar was. “Mufeed had been home while our child was missing,” a family member said.A police officer said Mufeed allegedly told Rajkumar’s family that the youth had fallen into Sirohi lake while taking a selfie. The family informed police, who then conducted a search in the lake, but Rajkumar could not be found.On Monday evening, Rajkumar’s body was found on Sirohi hill. His family noticed injuries on his face and body and suspected foul play. They alleged that he had been murdered by being pushed from the hill and named Mufeed, his father Jamshed and others in their complaint.The post-mortem examination found injuries on Rajkumar’s face, including near the eyes, along with head injuries, police said. A case was registered under Section 103 (murder) of BNS at Dhauj police station, and the AVTS team of Crime Branch Sikrona took up the investigation.Mufeed was arrested on Oct 6. “During questioning, Mufeed disclosed that he and Rajkumar had gone to the area near Sirohi lake to make a reel,” the officer said, adding that Rajkumar accidentally dropped Mufeed’s mobile phone while the two were making the reel, damaging it. An argument followed and escalated into a scuffle.A senior police officer said, “During the altercation, Mufeed allegedly pushed Rajkumar, causing him to fall down the hill. Mufeed then fled from the spot.”Police said Mufeed later allegedly misled Rajkumar’s family by telling them that Rajkumar had drowned in the lake when they questioned him about his whereabouts.Mufeed is currently in police custody. Investigators are examining the circumstances leading to Rajkumar’s fall and verifying the allegations made by his family.
