Bathinda: AIIMS Bathinda has strengthened its specialised cancer care with the establishment of a dedicated peritoneal cancer unit equipped with an advanced HIPEC facility under the department of surgical oncology.The unit is equipped with the RanD Performer 3 HIPEC System, a specialised device that heats and circulates chemotherapy solution through the abdominal cavity during HIPEC treatment. It enables controlled heating, circulation and temperature monitoring of the solution during the procedure.The unit will provide cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to appropriately selected patients with peritoneal surface malignancies, including selected colorectal, appendiceal and ovarian cancers that have spread to the peritoneum.A peritoneal cancer unit, or peritoneal surface malignancy programme, focuses on cancers affecting the lining of the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs, including primary peritoneal cancers and cancers that have spread to the abdomen.Prof Ratan Gupta, executive director, AIIMS Bathinda, said the specialised facility marked a milestone in strengthening advanced and comprehensive healthcare services at the institute.The institute has also initiated AYUSH services, including Ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, Siddha and homoeopathy, alongside modern medical services, with a focus on wellness and preventive healthcare.
