Lucknow: A single slipper left at the crime scene helped police crack the murder of a teacher couple in Sultanpur, leading to the arrest of two men, including the school’s bus driver, police said.The bodies of a 45-year-old teacher and school principal Mukesh Singh and his 43-year-old wife Vinita Singh were found on Sept 28 on the campus in Kumbhi Dadiya village.According to police, Rakesh Kumar Yadav (36) who worked as the couple’s school bus driver and also taught computer science, was stealing money from the institution with his relative Ashish (26) and another associate.While he was trying to open the locker, Vinita caught him red-handed.Police said Rakesh tried to persuade her to keep quiet and promised that he would not repeat the act. However, Vinita raised an alarm and called her husband. When the couple confronted them, Rakesh attacked Vinita with a spade. When Mukesh tried to flee, Rakesh and Ashish allegedly killed him with an axe.After the murders, Rakesh attempted to mislead police by claiming that he had gone to the school to collect the bus keys and found the bodies.However, police found one of his slippers at the crime scene. This became one of the first crucial clues pointing towards his involvement.Police also found that Rakesh’s mobile phone location was in the school at the time of the murders. His call records further revealed communication with his two aides.Police said Rakesh had damaged the school’s CCTV cameras and DVR four days before the murders.Sultanpur SP Vineet Jaiswal said Rakesh initially attempted to mislead cops, but as they confronted him with evidence, he spilled the beans.Rakesh and Ashish were arrested around 1:15 pm on Monday near the canal bridge at Budhana, police said. Their third associate is on the run.Police said they recovered the bloodstained spade allegedly used in the attack, an axe, Rs 34,960 in cash, Vinita’s Aadhaar card and bloodstained clothes of the accused.
