Chandrapur: In a bid to prevent a looming fodder shortage amid drought conditions, Chandrapur district administration has prohibited the transport and sale of all types of dry and green fodder from the district to other districts and outside Maharashtra.District Collector Vasumana Pant issued the prohibitory order on Tuesday under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The order will remain in force from Oct 1, 2026, until further orders. The collector said 12 of the district’s talukas have been brought under Trigger-1 drought following the state govt’s drought assessment. With fodder produced locally likely to be transported in large quantities to neighbouring districts and adjoining states for commercial sale, officials apprehend that continued outward movement could leave local livestock facing a serious shortage in the coming months. The ban covers green fodder, dry fodder, kadba, all types of chopped fodder, straw, total mixed ration and other livestock feed. However, fodder transported under govt schemes or with specific authorisation from Animal Husbandry Department or district administration has been exempted. The administration has warned that violation of the order will invite legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The restriction is aimed at retaining locally available fodder within the district as the drought situation could intensify during the coming months. The administration has appealed to farmers, traders, livestock owners and fodder transporters to comply strictly with the order and help ensure uninterrupted fodder availability for livestock.
