Shillong: A travelling climate festival opened at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Monday, bringing art, science and youth research together.The event will continue at the campus till Oct 9.Organised by Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, with NEHU’s department of geography, the festival aims to make climate science accessible while highlighting India’s diverse ecosystems.The five-day event brings together schools, colleges and local organisations from Shillong and nearby areas. It features student research exhibits, interactive installations, expert talks, guided nature walks, environmental film screenings and cultural performances.More than 300 panels of photographs, maps and stories showcase work by young interns from across India, who documented ecosystems and communities through photo essays and public art.“Through art, dialogue and student research, we hope visitors will experience how deeply the rivers, forests, mountains, coasts and oceans shape every aspect of our lives,” said Harini Nagendra, director of the School of Climate Change and Sustainability at Azim Premji University.She said the festival also highlighted the importance of protecting ecosystems for the environment and human survival.A teacher orientation and training programme will be held on Oct 8 and 9, focusing on nature, environmental and climate science, and science education.The festival will later travel to other locations in the Northeast and elsewhere in India.
