Calangute: Concerns over water shortages, open gutters posing a danger to motorists and other civic issues were raised at the Reis Magos panchayat gram sabha on Sunday.Sarpanch Sushmita Pednekar informed members that a new water treatment plant (WTP) at Pilerne was almost ready and would be operational by the end of the year. She was responding to resident John Aguiar, who raised the issue of an acute shortage of drinking water. “Once the WTP starts, the water supply in Reis Magos would increase,” she said.Residents also pointed out that the newly constructed toilets at the Betim ferry wharf had not yet been opened for public use. Pednekar said the panchayat would write to the river navigation department seeking the handover of the facility, after which it would be opened to the public.
