Bathinda: Rower Satnam Singh from Fatta Maloka village in Mansa received a cash award of Rs 50 lakh after winning a bronze medal in the men’s double sculls event with partner Salman Khan, clocking a time of 6:13.25. Chief minister Bhagwant Mann presented a cheque to him during a visit to his village to address a Satth programme on Monday.This is Satnam Singh’s second medal. Earlier, he had won a bronze medal in the men’s quadruple sculls event at the 2023 Asian Games in China.The 26-year-old is a Chief Petty Officer in the Indian Navy.Expressing gratitude for the felicitation, Satnam Singh said such gestures would inspire more youths to take up sports. He added that he was inspired by rower Swarn Singh, also from Mansa district, who represented the country in the 2012 London Olympics and won a gold medal in the men’s quadruple sculls at the 2018 Asian Games.
