Patna: A fresh rebellion has surfaced in RLM ahead of the Oct 23 legislative council elections with three of its four MLAs backing state general secretary and chief spokesman Ram Pukar Sinha, who filed his nomination from the Saran Teachers’ constituency against NDA nominee and JD(U) candidate Anand Pushkar on Monday.Sinha filed his papers in the presence of RLM state president Alok Kumar Singh and MLAs Madhav Anand and Rameshwar Mahto. Jan Suraaj candidate Afaq Ahmed also filed his nomination from the seat.Sinha said around 70% of RLM district presidents were present during his nomination, indicating significant organisational support.RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha, who has backed all official NDA candidates, denied any rebellion. “None of my party’s MLAs have turned rebellious,” he said. “With the announcement of MLC elections, political intoxication has set in, whether it’s NDA or the Mahagathbandhan. People are getting carried away,” Kushwaha added.Alok, however, said three of the four MLAs had backed Sinha and their decision should be viewed as the party line. Kushwaha’s wife Snehlata is the fourth MLA.The MLAs said their support for Sinha did not mean withdrawing support from the NDA govt.Madhav said they backed Sinha out of respect for party workers and his long association with RLM. “He has given 20 years of his life to the party as a committed soldier,” he said. Rameshwar also said workers were the backbone of any political organisation. The RLM had won four seats in the 2025 assembly polls as an NDA constituent. Meanwhile, RJD and Congress have fielded candidates against each other on five council seats.
