Chandrapur: 11 male cattle were rescued after Ramnagar police busted an alleged illegal cattle-slaughtering and beef-selling operation at a house in the Tukum Talav area in the city on Sunday. Equipment and beef worth Rs 1,73,192 were seized.Acting on a tip-off, a police team accompanied by a veterinary officer raided the house of Abdul Anis Abdul Nabi Qureshi (46) and his son Nafan Abdul Anis Qureshi (21). Police said the duo had allegedly kept the cattle confined for slaughter and were selling beef from the premises.During the raid, police seized beef, a weighing machine, a meat-cutting sattur (cleaver) and other equipment. The 11 cattle were also rescued and taken into custody as per procedure.A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Food Safety and Standards Act. The raid was conducted by Ramnagar PI Prabhawati Ekurke and her team.
