Mohali: A 27-year-old woman has accused a Mohali resident of sexually assaulting her on the pretext of marriage and later refusing to marry her after she became pregnant. Sohana police have registered a case against Arun Kumar, a resident of Sector 67, and launched efforts to trace him.According to the complainant, she met Arun in 2023 and the two became friends while regularly speaking on the phone. She alleged that Arun later proposed marriage and repeatedly assured her that he would marry her.The woman alleged that on Aug 12, 2023, Arun took her to a hotel in Sector 80 to celebrate her birthday, where he had sexual relations with her. She further claimed that he continued to have a physical relationship with her at different places over the following months while reaffirming his promise to marry her.In her complaint, the woman stated that she became pregnant in Jan 2025 and informed Arun about it. She alleged that he subsequently gave her medicines and later backed out of his promise to marry her. She also claimed that he stopped taking her calls.The complaint was initially recorded at Sector 36 police station in Chandigarh. As the alleged incidents fell within Mohali’s jurisdiction, Chandigarh Police forwarded the complaint and relevant documents to Sohana police for further action.Based on the complaint, Sohana police have registered a case against the accused. Police said further investigation is under way and efforts are being made to locate him.
