Bathinda: The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday suspended Maur MLA Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana’s primary membership with immediate effect, citing “anti-party activities and indiscipline”, just hours after he publicly criticised Punjab govt over teacher vacancies and questioned its education model. The suspension was conveyed in a letter signed by AAP state general secretary Harjot Singh Barsat. The action follows Maiserkhana’s 14-minute Facebook live in which he expressed frustration over vacant teacher posts, including in schools of eminence, and questioned the implementation of the govt’s “Sikhya Kranti” programme.Maiserkhana, MLA from Maur, had said his two children study at the govt school of eminence in Ramnagar and alleged that repeated pleas to fill vacant posts had gone unheeded.Education minister Harjot Singh Bains had called the claims “politically motivated”, saying more than 90% of teacher posts in the constituency were filled. He said the Ramnagar school had 25 teachers against a sanctioned strength of 30 for 580 students.Maiserkhana had also said he raised the issue with AAP Punjab in charge Manish Sisodia, who told him the chief minister had called him, but the meeting did not take place. “I had been a loyal worker,” Maiserkhana had said, while expressing frustration over what he described as repeated failure to address his concerns. He had also raised concerns over schools in Burj Semewala and Kuttiwal Khurd village. “I am fighting for refurbishing school education. I am tired of making demands and could not tolerate anymore,” he had said.Bains had questioned why Maiserkhana was “defaming the govt”. He had also said the MLA might be “feeling politically unsafe”.Maiserkhana had discussed his political future during the Facebook live, saying he had joined AAP with high hopes but that several initiatives had remained slogans. He had said he no longer cared about getting a party ticket and urged people to “rise” for Punjab.
