Gurgaon: A 76-year-old man is battling for his life in the ICU after suffering serious spinal cord injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Sector 5, while his wife, also 76, sustained a head injury and significant blood loss when their two-wheeler was allegedly hit by another scooter on Thursday morning.Police registered an FIR on Friday against the unidentified rider for rash driving and endangering human life. The accused fled the spot after the collision, according to the complaint.The incident took place on Oct 1, when Gian Parkash Pasricha and his wife, Sneh Lata Pasricha, were heading towards a nearby park for their morning walk. Their son, Vikas Pasricha, told police that another two-wheeler collided with their vehicle in front of a house in Sector 5.Vikas, who reached the spot after receiving information about the accident, took his injured parents to Manipal Hospital in Palam Vihar in his vehicle.According to the complaint, Gian Parkash suffered serious cervical and spinal cord injuries and underwent emergency spinal surgery on Oct 1. He was subsequently placed on mechanical ventilation in the ICU. His wife sustained a head injury, significant blood loss and other blunt-force injuries and remained under treatment at the hospital.Police said they obtained the medico-legal reports of both victims. When officers reached the hospital, Gian Parkash was undergoing surgery and could not give a statement, while doctors declared Sneh Lata fit to do so.An FIR was registered at Sector 5 police station under BNS Sections 281 (rash driving) and 125(A) (rash or negligent acts endangering human life or personal safety).The complaint by their son alleged that the other scooter was being driven on the wrong side of the road and that two boys, who appeared to be minors, were riding it. Police, however, have not confirmed their ages or identified the rider.Investigators are scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed around the accident site and adjoining roads to trace the vehicle and those involved.
