Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Education has approved the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Classical Pali at the Central University of Odisha, aimed at strengthening the study, preservation and promotion of the language.
Pali has a significant place in India’s intellectual, spiritual and cultural traditions, particularly in the study of Buddhist literature and philosophy.
Welcoming the approval, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described it as a significant step towards preserving India’s linguistic and civilisational heritage.
“The Ministry of Education’s approval of a Centre of Excellence for Classical Pali at the Central University of Odisha will strengthen the study, preservation and promotion of Pali,” Majhi said in a post on X.
He said the Centre would further strengthen Odisha’s contribution to preserving India’s civilisational knowledge and linguistic heritage.
Majhi also congratulated the Central University of Odisha and those associated with the initiative.
The Centre is expected to provide an institutional platform for academic work related to Classical Pali and contribute to wider efforts to preserve India’s classical languages and knowledge traditions.
