Aizawl: The mortal remains of PIB and CBC additional director general Engam Pame and Doordarshan Aizawl director (news) Nampibou Marinmai, who died in a road accident near Sateek village in Mizoram’s Aizawl district on Thursday, were accorded a farewell in Aizawl on Friday before being taken to Manipur for the final rites.After the ceremony, the bodies of the two senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officers were flown to Mashimpur in Assam on Friday afternoon. They were then transported to Tamenglong town in Manipur, described as the native town of both officials.Speaking at the ceremony, state home minister K Sapdanga expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said the Mizoram govt was ready to extend any assistance they might need. He also acknowledged the officers’ contributions to the media sector.Education minister Vanlalthlana also described the two as prominent figures in the media sector and conveyed his condolences to their families.I&PR minister B Lalchhanzova said the two had worked closely with the Mizoram govt’s I&PR department and that their deaths were deeply mourned.Former Lok Sabha MP and retired Doordarshan director general C Lalrosanga paid tribute to the two, saying they had made significant contributions to the development of Mizoram’s media sector and that their work would be remembered.All India Radio Aizawl director and Mizoram cluster head DR Lalropuia said Marinmai had made sustained efforts to develop Mizoram’s media sector and had contributed significantly to its growth.Governor Gen VK Singh condoled the deaths of the two officers, saying he was deeply shocked by the road accident near Sateek on Thursday afternoon, in which three public information officials were killed.“Their untimely demise is an irreparable loss to the media and communication fraternity,” Gen Singh said in a social media post.CM Lalduhoma also condoled the deaths in a social media post.“I am deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely demise of Engam Pamei, additional director general, PIB, Imphal, Manipur; Nampibou Marinmai, director (news), Doordarshan Kendra, Aizawl; and H Lianvela, MTS, CBC, Aizawl, who lost their lives in a tragic accident on the evening of Oct 1, 2026. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families and loved ones. Their sudden and untimely passing is a profound loss, and I share in the grief of all who mourn them,” he said.
