Panaji: The deaths of community dogs at a residential society in Betim have triggered a police complaint alleging deliberate poisoning, with the complainant seeking an immediate investigation.District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), North Goa, filed a complaint at Porvorim police station on Sep 29, 2026, after receiving a complaint from a resident of Ashok Baleza Patel Estate Society.According to the complaint, three dogs had been found dead near the society. It further refers to an investigation into the death of a fourth dog. The complaint states that the bodies of the deceased animals were no longer available for examination because they had decomposed.DSPCA has urged police to investigate whether the deaths are connected and whether poisoning was involved, and to take proper action.The complaint urges police to investigate the case under Section 11(1)(c) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, which deals with administering or causing an animal to consume an injurious substance, and under Sections 325 and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, relating to killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering an animal useless, and attempts to commit such offences.
