Dumka: A local court in Dumka on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to two men of Kathikund block for trafficking minor girls to Delhi on the pretext of providing them with jobs. It also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each convict.The court of Additional Sessions Judge-II Yogesh Kumar Singh convicted Surju Marandi alias Durga Marandi and Ram alias Ram Hembrom in the 2017 case registered at Kathikund police station.Additional Public Prosecutor Bhavendra Soren said the accused had lured minor girls with promises of employment and taken them to Delhi. They allegedly kept the girls away from their families and failed to cooperate with efforts to trace and bring them back.Police established the involvement of the two accused in transporting the girls to Delhi during investigation, and filed a charge sheet before the court.After evaluating the evidence on record, the court held both accused guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment under Sections 363, 370, and 371 (read with Section 34) of the IPC.
