Mangaluru: Following the transfer of the Mangaluru railway area from Palakkad division to Mysuru division with effect from midnight, Mysuru additional divisional railway manager (ADRM) Shammas Hameed reviewed arrangements for the transition and continuity of railway operations.Hameed, accompanied by branch officers of Mysuru Division, visited Mangaluru Central, Mangaluru Junction, Panambur and Jokatte to inspect operational arrangements and facilities.The officers interacted with railway staff and reviewed requirements related to manpower, resources and essential facilities. The review also covered inter-departmental coordination, staff preparedness, train operations, safety, maintenance and passenger services.Officials concerned were instructed to address operational requirements promptly and maintain coordination between field units and the divisional office.The shift brings the Mangaluru railway area, earlier under Palakkad division of Southern Railway, under Mysuru division of South Western Railway.Reacting to the development, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta described it as a “long-pending change in railway administration”. He said bringing Mangaluru under Mysuru division would provide a more integrated administrative framework and enable better coordination, planning and operational efficiency, with the potential to strengthen connectivity and freight movement..
