Dhanbad: A blood donation camp was organised at Union Club on Wednesday on the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day at Union Club. The organisers set a target of collecting 45 units of blood. The major highlight of the programme was the launch of a mobile application, ‘Rakt Sathi – Rakt Suvidha’, aimed at making blood donation and access to blood easier and more organised. The app is available for download from the Google Play Store and allows both individual blood donors and NGOs to register.Organiser Gopal Bhattacharya said the application would help to maintain a digital record of blood donations. After registering as a donor, users can check details such as when they last donated blood and when they are eligible for their next donation. This feature is expected to help donors keep track of their donation schedule and encourage regular voluntary blood donation. The application also provides a mechanism for people to seek blood during emergencies. A person requiring blood can post a requirement through the app. The registered NGO can then circulate the request among its network of donors through messages, helping identify potential donors and facilitating timely assistance. The organisers said the initiative is intended to bridge the gap between blood donors and patients in need, particularly during emergencies when finding a suitable donor can be difficult. By bringing donor records, blood requirements and NGO coordination onto a single digital platform, the app could help reduce the time taken to connect patients with potential donors.
