T’puram: Attingal fast track court on Wednesday has sentenced a 57-year-old man to five years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for attempting to sexually assault a four-year-old girl. The court also ordered that he undergo an additional five months’ imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.Judge C R Bijukumar pronounced the sentence.According to the prosecution, the accused, Jyothi of Varkala, trespassed into the survivor’s house and lured the child by offering her sweets. He then called the child to him, made her sit on his lap and attempted to sexually assault her.Kallambalam Police registered the case on Nov 3, 2024, following the incident.Special public prosecutor U Salimsha and advocate Neelima R Krishnan appeared for the prosecution.Kallambalam SHO K Vijayaraghavan and R Sivakumar conducted the investigation and submitted the chargesheet in the case.
