Prayagraj: Sangam City is set to get wider piped natural gas (PNG) coverage, with plans to extend the network to all wards of the Municipal Corporation. The project aims to provide PNG connections to around three lakh households. IndianOil-Adani Gas will expand the pipeline network in phases to improve access across the city.Around 800 km of PNG pipeline has already been laid in the district, including a substantial network in urban areas. The company plans to lay another 200-250 km of pipeline over the next two years. Around 130 km of new pipeline is proposed to be laid during the current financial year, followed by another 120 km in the subsequent phase. Work on extending the network has already begun in the Naini area.At present, around 25,000 consumers in the district are using PNG. Another nearly 8,000 consumers have completed the formalities for obtaining connections, but supply to their homes has not yet started. The company plans to begin supplying these consumers soon as the network reaches their localities.Officials said demand for PNG is growing steadily, with an average of 30-40 people applying for new connections every day. Once the pipeline network reaches all municipal wards, households will be provided connections, reducing their dependence on booking and procuring LPG cylinders.The expansion comes against the backdrop of a large LPG consumer base in the city. There are more than 14.79 lakh LPG consumers, of whom around 7.20 lakh get their cylinders refilled every month. LPG cylinders are supplied through 144 District Supply Officer Sunil Singh said efforts were underway to extend PNG facilities to more areas of the city and make the fuel available to a larger number of households.Pankaj Kumar, associate manager, IndianOil-Adani Gas, said the company was working to make PNG available across all parts of the city.
