New Delhi, September 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump over the phone on Wednesday, with the two leaders reviewing the progress of India-US cooperation across trade, defence, energy and critical technologies.
During the conversation, Modi and Trump reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and agreed to remain closely engaged to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Modi said the two leaders also discussed regional and international developments, including ongoing efforts aimed at promoting global peace and security.
“Had a productive conversation with President Trump. We reviewed our bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas,” Modi said in a post on X following the call.
He added that both sides agreed to maintain close engagement to take the strategic partnership forward.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues and discussed efforts to promote peace and security. They agreed to remain in touch.
The conversation comes amid efforts by Washington and New Delhi to further expand cooperation across several strategic areas.
Earlier, senior US officials had indicated that the Trump administration was working towards a possible presidential visit to India in the early part of next year, underlining the importance Washington places on its relationship with New Delhi.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor highlighted the expanding scope of bilateral cooperation, including trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and the Indo-Pacific.
Rubio had said that the administration was working towards arranging Trump’s visit to India early next year. He also described India as a close US partner and stressed the importance of the relationship between Trump and Modi.
Gor similarly pointed to the close rapport between the two leaders, describing it as an important anchor of the broader bilateral relationship.
The two US officials also highlighted areas where Washington and New Delhi see scope for deeper cooperation, including economic ties, supply chains, critical minerals, energy, security and freedom of navigation.
The latest conversation between Modi and Trump comes as both countries seek to expand their strategic partnership across economic, defence and technology-related areas while continuing consultations on regional and global developments.
