Addressing back-to-back rallies at the Dolonghat Dol Mandir grounds and Dhing Gate, the senior Union Minister in the PM Narendra Modi cabinet made a direct appeal: vote Sarma to victory on the lotus symbol. Sonowal told the crowds and give greater Nagaon a representative who has already spent years serving the people of Nagaon and Morigaon districts with dedication, honesty and accountability.
“The BJP-led NDA’s governance has opened up new possibilities of development, enterprise and employment,” Sonowal declared, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years in office for advancing all-round development, public welfare and social harmony under the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” — together with all, development for all, trust of all, effort of all.
Sonowal credited Chief Ministe Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government with sustaining that momentum in Assam, pointing to roads, bridges, industrial investment and job creation as evidence of a state transformed. Nagaon, he reminded the crowd, was once synonymous with floods, crumbling connectivity and scarce industry — a constituency, he said, that has since been remade by infrastructure spending under NDA rule.
The centrepiece of his pitch was Jagiroad’s Tata Semiconductor project, a roughly Rs 27,000-crore investment that Sonowal cast as a turning point for the region’s economic future. The plant, he said, would not only add a new dimension to Assam’s industrial base but open direct employment pathways for the constituency’s skilled youth — a promise aimed squarely at the young voters the BJP is courting hardest in this by-election.
Sonowal came down heavily on the opposition for abandoning any real engagement with development or the public’s basic problems, choosing instead to chase votes through divisive politics designed to mislead the electorate. He urged voters to judge both the government’s record and the opposition’s rhetoric strictly on facts — not manufactured narratives — if Assam’s “stream of development, peace and progress” was to continue uninterrupted.
Social harmony took center stage as well. Sonowal called continued coordination among people of all faiths in Nagaon and Morigaon essential to the region’s development journey, framing communal trust as a foundation of Assam’s growth story rather than a side issue. He urged the public to champion a politics rooted in welfare and development, and to stay vigilant against what he described as the opposition’s corrosive mix of divisive politics and corruption.
Noting the large turnout of women at the rallies, Sonowal singled out their presence for praise, calling women’s active participation central to social transformation and pledging the government’s continued commitment to women’s empowerment, dignity and aspirations.
