T’puram: Steps will be expedited to establish a mini fire station at Vattiyoorkavu and construct a new building for the existing police station, said health minister K Muraleedharan.The minister said this during a meeting on Monday with office-bearers of Federation of Residents’ Associations Vattiyoorkavu (FRAV) to discuss development projects in the constituency.FRAV representatives suggested considering housing board land at Nettayam Irukunnath for the proposed fire station. Muraleedharan said the proposal would be discussed with the housing minister.A mini fire station at Vattiyoorkavu would benefit residents in areas including Peroorkada, Vazhayila, Kachani, Malamukal, Nettayam, Moonnamoodu, Vellakkadavu, Kulasekharam, Kundamankadavu, Maruthamkuzhi and PTP Nagar, the meeting noted.The minister also directed PWD to prepare an estimate for constructing a new building for the Vattiyoorkavu police station. The meeting also decided to examine steps to shift the Sub-Registrar’s Office and Rationing Office, which are currently functioning in rented premises, to the newly constructed Vattiyoorkavu village office building at Vattiyoorkavu junction.FRAV representatives also sought the restoration of ponds at Nettayam Punnachirakulam, Vadakkekkara Kulam, Mukkola Chirakulam, Pappad Kulam, Vazhayila Rannikulam and Plavode Kollankode Kulam, and the creation of facilities to provide swimming training for children. Muraleedharan said the demand would be considered sympathetically.FRAV office-bearers S Sudhakaran Nair, Vishnu S Nair and K Lal Kumar, among others, attended the meeting.
