Dumka: Five interstate cyber frauds have been arrested and five mobile phones and eight SIM cards from different areas in Deoghar district, cyber police said.The arrested accused were identified as Sarfaraz Alam of Barmasia village and Shivam Kumar Das of Charkamara village under the Sarath police station limits, Vijay Kumar Das of Simratari village and Abhay Kumar Das of Ledwa village under the Pathrol police station, and Nitesh Kumar of Daundia village under the Sonaraythadhi police station of Deoghar district. All were aged in their twenties, police added.DSP (cyber) Kailash Prasad Mahto on Monday said, “Acting on inputs received by SP Praveen Pushkar that the suspects were allegedly cheating people by posing as customer-care representatives and offering benefits under govt schemes, raids were conducted in the district.”Technical analysis of the seized phones and SIM cards revealed that the IMEI numbers of the devices and the mobile numbers were linked to cyber fraud complaints registered in different states, police added.“Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused were using multiple methods, including fake customer-care calls, to lure victims with cashback offers. They also allegedly sent APK files in the name of PM-Kisan benefits, electricity bills, and RTO challans to gain remote access to victims’ phones before carrying out fraudulent transactions,” the DSP (cyber) added.
