Mohali: Police have found that the .30-bore pistol allegedly used to kill Parol village panch Sukhwant Singh alias Satti had been supplied to the main accused, Jaspreet Singh alias Jassu, by ‘A-category’ gangster Lucky Patial, who is currently based in Armenia. The weapon had allegedly been provided for a targeted attack on someone else, but Jassu used it to kill Satti before receiving any specific target from Patial.During interrogation, Jassu said he retrieved the pistol from a concealed spot around 15 days before the murder on Patial’s directions and later buried it along a roadside. Police are probing the circumstances in which the weapon was supplied and the role of Patial.SP (Rural) Jaspinder Singh said Jassu was in touch with Patial through social media. The two had established contact around a month before the incident. According to the police, Patial told Jassu to visit a particular location and supplied the pistol to carry out an attack on a specific target. However, before Patial relayed instructions about the target, Jassu and his accomplice, Davinder Singh alias Juda, used the weapon to shoot Satti on Sept 21.Police said Jassu had an old enmity with Satti and intended to kill him. He allegedly fired six rounds at Satti. Police are investigating whether the murder was linked to a long-standing dispute over the alleged molestation of a family member. On two to three occasions, the two sides had reportedly reached compromises at the village panchayat level and through the police. However, the enmity festered.Both accused have criminal records. Two cases are registered against Jassu at Mullanpur police station. Davinder is facing an FIR under the POCSO Act and rape-related provisions. Police said no NDPS case has so far surfaced against either of them.Police clarified that there was no exchange of fire during the arrest of the two accused. One of them allegedly fired a shot into the air to divert the attention of the police team before putting down the weapon, raising his hands and surrendering, said the SP. The CIA in-charge and Mullanpur police team were present at the spot.Police are investigating where the two accused stayed during the three days they were at large after the murder and who provided them shelter. So far, no other person has been found to be involved, but their contacts and possible facilitators are being examined.The role of Lucky Patial and the circumstances surrounding the supply and concealment of the weapon are also under investigation.
