Surat: A fruit juice vendor was killed after being struck by an Audi car at Eru Charrasta in Jalalpore late on Sunday night. Police arrested the driver within hours of the fatal hit-and-run.According to Jalalpore police, the accident occurred around 10pm when fruit vendor Arun Upadhyay (55), a resident of Sitaramnagar Society near Eru Charrasta, was crossing the road.Police said the Audi, bearing registration number GJ-21 AH-9347, was being driven at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner from the Gandhi Bridge side towards Eru Charrasta. The vehicle hit Upadhyay with force, leaving him critically injured. The driver fled the scene following the collision.Upadhyay succumbed to his injuries, police said.Following information about the accident, Jalalpore police teams rushed to the spot and launched a search for the fleeing driver. Teams were deployed at multiple locations as part of the investigation. Police traced and apprehended the accused within a few hours.The accused was identified as Shivang Kumar Bharatbhai Patel (28), a resident of India Colony in Jalalpore, Navsari district. Police have registered a case against him and initiated further legal proceedings.
