Mangaluru: Vajradehi Mutt seer Sri Rajashekharananda Swami Monday alleged that the state govt was attempting to weaken the Hindu community by invoking the Goonda Act against Hindu activists.Addressing a protest organised by the VHP and Bajrang Dal at BC Road in Bantwal taluk against the Act’s imposition on activists, including Bharath Kumdelu, the seer urged senior police officers to reflect on the consequences of their actions. He said they were forcing activists onto the streets and creating conditions that could lead to unrest.He also criticised police for issuing a notice to RSS functionary Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat to record his statement in connection with the murder of Abdul Rahiman in Bantwal.The seer appealed to the chief minister and home minister to withdraw the Goonda Act cases against Hindu activists and volunteers, saying the move was hurting the morale of Hindu society. He objected to police branding activists as goondas for allegedly questioning illegal transportation of cattle.Dakshina Kannada SP Dr Arun K said the Goonda Act had been invoked against several individuals with multiple criminal cases pending against them. Bharath Kumdelu faces five cases across Bantwal town, Bantwal rural, Uppinangady and Puttur town police stations.Similar action has been taken against Abhin Rai, Pradeep, Shivaprasad, Ranjith and Thejaksha, each of whom faces multiple criminal cases.Meanwhile, Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath alleged that the Congress govt’s anti-Hindu policies had crossed all limits and warned that people would respond politically to such actions. He accused the govt of targeting Hindu activists, harassing Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and using the police to disrupt Hindu festivals.
