CHENNAI: DMK has moved Madras high court seeking Rs 1.01 crore as damages from TVK ministers Aadhav Arjuna and C T R Nirmal Kumar, alleging that they had been spreading false allegation against the party in connection with the child rape case involving granite baron R Veeramani.Recording the submissions on Monday, Justice Govindarajan Thilakavadi orally observed that the advocate general must give suitable instruction to the ministers in this regard and adjourned the hearing to Sept 30 for filing counters.“TVK is politicising the matter despite the clear instructions of the court. DMK is following the court’s advice not to politicise the issue, whereas TVK members continue to speak about the matter,” senior advocate J Ravindran said representing DMK.According to DMK, Nirmal Kumar and Aadhav Arjuna had alleged in media interviews that the previous DMK govt had failed to take appropriate action against Veeramani in a case involving the alleged sexual assault of minor girls and had allowed him to escape legal action. Similarly, the TVK’s IT wing had made posts on X accusing the DMK govt in connection with the case.DMK alleged that the statements and posts were defamatory and intended to tarnish its reputation. A complaint against Veeramani was received on Oct 6, 2025, and that a case was registered the very next day. Immediate action was taken without any interference or delay, it claimed.“The ministers and the ruling party’s IT wing were spreading defamatory statements contrary to the actual facts, thereby damaging the party’s reputation,” the party said and wanted the court to direct the social media platforms to remove all such posts and videos published of the ministers against the DMK in connection with the issue.
