Patna: The district and Mahanagar units of the Congress across Bihar took out joint protest marches in cities and towns across the state on Monday against alleged irregularities in the preparation of electoral rolls through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electors and in the conduct of polls under chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.The protesters demanded the arrest of CEC, a high-level independent inquiry into the preparation of the electoral rolls and legal action against those found guilty in the inquiry.They raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and the CEC. The presidents of the respective district and Mahanagar units jointly led the protest marches.“The protest marches were organised in cities and towns across the state on the call of the AICC. It had asked party workers to hold protest marches in 800 towns and cities across the country on Monday,” Bihar Congress media department chief Rajesh Rathore said.He added that earlier, on the AICC’s call, protest marches had been held in all state capitals, including Patna.In Patna, the party’s Mahanagar unit president Kumar Ashish and Patna (rural) district chief Chandan Singh jointly led the march. It started from Congress Maidan in Kadamkuan and concluded at Dinkar Chowk after passing through the main thoroughfares. The protesters raised slogans against the govt and CEC.
