Bhagalpur: Police arrested a woman drug peddler from Gangti Tola under Sultanganj police station on Monday as part of the ‘Swasth Yuva, Swasth Bhagalpur’ initiative launched by SSP Pramod Kumar Yadav.Police recovered nearly 500 grams of brown sugar (ganja), an illicit and highly addictive opioid drug, and one litre of country-made liquor from Kadma Devi, wife of Rajesh Das. A cellphone containing several suspicious numbers was also seized.Pramod said police had received information on Sunday about drug trafficking in Sultanganj involving a woman, her son and others. A team led by SP (City), SDPO and the Sultanganj SHO, along with women police personnel, was formed to investigate the case and arrest the suspects.Kadma was arrested after the information was confirmed, and an FIR under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and other laws was being registered, Pramod said.He said the involvement of Kadma’s son, Ganga Das, had also come to light. Ganga escaped during the raid, while police were questioning Kadma about the racket and examining mobile phone data to identify suppliers and recipients of the brown sugar.Pramod said the drive aimed to eliminate drug trafficking from the district. In a separate operation, police arrested Rounak Kumar from Bhatoria under Madusudanpur police station with a country-made pistol (katta), 11 live cartridges and a cellphone.
